How To Choose A Jeweler
Choosing just the right jeweler from whom to
purchase an engagement can be every bit as important as choosing
just the right engagement ring. You will need to find someone with
whom you feel comfortable and feel you can trust. You will also
want him to be knowledgeable about diamonds rather than just
someone who happens to own or manage a jewelry store.

Many jewelry store owners and managers will call
themselves jewelers. But this isnt necessarily so. A jeweler is
someone who actually does the jewelry work. They may make the
jewelry from beginning to end or they may simply size rings and set
stones in them. This is the person you want to talk to, because
they will probably be the ones who are most knowledgeable about the
diamonds as well. Although, I will say, there are times when the
person doing the work is simply a mechanic, and the storeowner or
manager may actually be a qualified gemologist. The only way to
make the determination is to talk to them and ask questions.
Maybe I should make a bit of a clarification
here between a jeweler and a gemologist. As I said before, a
jeweler actually does the jewelry work. On the other hand a
gemologist has studied gemstones, their origins and properties. It
is possible, although unlikely, a jeweler will only know how to
work on the jewelry, and will have only a minimal knowledge of
gemstones. However, it would be extremely normal that a gemologist
with all their knowledge of gemstones would not actually be able to
sit at a bench and size a ring or set a diamond. The two are very
different things.
One good way to find a trustworthy jeweler is to
ask your friends and family asking them for recommendations. Maybe
your mother or a neighbor has been using the same jeweler for years
and knows them to be trustworthy. Equally as important is finding
out which jewelers they have any kind of problems with.
Just because a jewelry store is in a large mall
and has a lot of beautiful showcases and fancy lighting does not
necessarily mean this is a good place to buy your engagement ring.
Likewise, just because a jewelry store is in a small strip mall and
appears to be a bit of an afterthought does not mean it isnt a good
place to buy an engagement ring.

Guide
on How to Bid at Bidz - a No Risk Way

If you go to the large fancy mall store, owned
by a large corporation, you will find a large selection of diamond
engagement rings from which to choose. These stores will frequently
also offer credit plans. However, the engagement rings youll find
there will be pretty much the same as youll find in every other
large fancy mall jewelry store. The prices will probably also be
quite a bit higher in these stores, because they have enormous
overhead, and they must add into the price of the jewelry the
losses from people who buy on credit and dont pay their bills.
On the other hand, the smaller privately owned
jewelry store wont have all the fancy fixtures and lighting, and
they probably wont offer any kind of credit plan other than
lay-away. However, while you will still find some of the same
engagement rings you saw in the larger stores, you will also find
many more unusual engagement rings, because they have been make
right there in the small store. The prices will probably also be
quite a bit more affordable than in the mall stores, because the
owner doesnt have the enormous overhead of the large malls. Another
advantage of dealing with the smaller store is that sometimes you
will have a little bit of bargaining power when it comes to he
price, which you will never have in a mall.
The main thing is to find a jewelry store where
you feel comfortable and that has a variety of engagement rings
from which to choose. After that all you have to do is decide what
style, color and price will be the best fit the needs of you and
your future bride.
