When you buy an engagement ring you can find one priced as low as $100 or as high as the "sky is the limit". Your budget will most likely be somewhere in between those two. Naturally, you'll probably want to buy the nicest engagement ring, for the love of your life, as you can for the least amount of money. Or maybe you simply don't have a great deal to spend and don't want to wait until you can save more. Don't worry. You can still find a beautiful engagement ring at a very reasonable price. If you are shopping on a budget, you will want to avoid the larger mall type jewelry stores. Their overhead is so high you aren't likely to find any bargains there. A good place to begin your search is a small privately owned jewelry store. The smaller jewelry stores are frequently run by the jeweler who actually does the work. Because they don't have the high overhead of the large mall stores the prices are usually much better, and you can often do a little bit of bargaining. Yes it's true that most of the jewelry in pawnshops has been worn before, and some people will have a problem with this, because of the whole idea of "used" jewelry. But before you miss out on saving a great deal of money, please allow me to clue you in on what buying from pawn shops is all about. When most people think of pawnshops they think of the movie "The Pawnbroker", and expect to find someone like Rod Steiger behind the counter of a dark, dingy, grubby pawnshop, where most of the jewelry was probably stolen in the first place. The truth is, today's modern pawnshops look much like any other retail store. Most of them are clean and brightly lit displaying all kinds of merchandise at terrific prices. And, you don't have to worry about the question of stolen merchandise, because a pawnshop files a police report on every single piece of merchandise they buy. Whatever you're buying, a pawnshop is a good place to look for it. This is particularly true when it comes to buying engagement rings as well as other kinds of jewelry. To begin with, many pawnshops have their own jeweler who goes through the jewelry before it is priced and put out for sale. The jeweler will make certain all the stones are secure, will make any necessary repairs, and will refinish the rings and other jewelry so it looks as if it were brand new. You will not be able to tell the difference. Price is another great advantage of buying engagement rings in a pawnshop. Because they have only paid pennies on the dollar for the jewelry, their prices are usually way below what you will find just about anywhere else. On top of which, you can do a bit of bargaining with most pawn shops, and talk their already low prices down even further. So don't hesitate to make an offer when you find something you like.
